The purpose of educational devices service delivery system is to improve disabled students' learning efficiency via assistive technology. This service delivery system consist of professional assessment, device of loan, fitting, adjustment, repair, and recycle service for high school and university students with disability in Taiwan.
Ministry of Education entrust three organizations to set up educational assistive technology center and execute the above-mentioned service. These three educational assistive technology centers provide assistive technology service to vision, hearing and physical (or other than vision and hearing) impaired students respectively. The educational AT centers also purchase or adjust recycle devices to make sure the products meet the needs of students. Furthermore, the center hold regional workshops, outreach programs, speeches and assistive device demonstrations for teachers working with disable students at school to increase their knowledge and skills.
In 2019, there are 598 students accepted assessment and 417 students borrowed the assistive tools. There are 583 cases of device repair. In this year alone, 447 items of AT devices have been purchased. There are 2,307 devices are still on loan so far and 613 devices are currently available.
This assistive technology service have supported numerous of challenged students for many years. The service allow these students to participate in learning activities and career transitions. The educational AT centers looking forward to more diverse and innovative delivery service in the near future.
