Scholarships and Tuition Waivers for Students with Disabilities

Scholarships

According to the Rules Governing Grants to Students in Special Education, students with disabilities obtained average academic scores of 80 and up/70-80 in the previous school year with good moral records are eligible to apply for scholarship/partial scholarship. The amount of scholarship shall be determined according to types and levels of disabilities.

In School Year 2016, 2,345 students with disabilities were awarded with scholarship at the total amount of NTD 48.392 million. In school systems governed by K-12 Education Administration, 302 students with disabilities were awarded with scholarship at the amount of NTD 1.411 million. Furthermore, 2,065 students with disabilities were awarded with partial scholarship at the total amount of NTD 25.70 million. In school systems governed by K-12 Education Administration, 156 students with disabilities were awarded with scholarship at the amount of NTD 385,000.

Tuition waivers

According to Rules Governing Tuition Waivers of Students with Disabilities and Children of Parents with Disabilities, students with disabilities or children of parents with disabilities with the total amount of household income in previous year less than NTD 2.2 million, when studying at schools in Taiwan, during their studies, they are eligible to waive tuitions. Waivers shall be given according to levels of disabilities by deducting by three levels: (1) free, (2) 70% deduction, and (3) 40% deduction. In School Year 2016, 7,924 students with disabilities applied at the waivers amount of NTD 312.8 million.
